Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 1, 2026
Darkroom Lab (“the App”) respects your privacy. This policy explains what information the App handles and how it is used.
1. Our approach
- The App has no account sign-up and never asks for personal information such as your name or email address.
- The App uses no advertising, analytics or tracking tools.
- Photos you take and prints you make are stored only on your device and are never sent to the developer's servers.
2. Features and information the App uses
| Feature | How it is used | Sent off the device |
|---|---|---|
| Camera | To take photos and to recognize your hand held over the enlarger (dodging). Hand recognition runs on the device, and the camera feed is not saved. | No |
| Depth sensor (TrueDepth camera) | On supported iPhones, when the setting is on, distance information is used momentarily on the device to treat hands or objects near the camera as shadows. It is not used to recognize or identify faces, and it is not saved. | No |
| Photos (import) | Only the images you choose in the photo picker are imported into the App as negatives. The App cannot access photos you don't choose. | No |
| Photos (add) | Prints you mark with ★ (favorite) are saved to the Photos app. | No |
| Location | To look up the day's air temperature and use it as the developer temperature. Only approximate location (about 3 km accuracy) is used. | Sent to the weather service below to get the temperature |
3. Information sent to third parties
To get the temperature, the App sends latitude and longitude (rounded to three decimal places) to the weather service Open-Meteo. If you have not allowed location access, the App instead sends the coordinates of a major city matching your device's time zone (such as Tokyo or London), or nothing if there is no matching city. As with any internet request, Open-Meteo receives standard connection information such as your IP address. For how that information is handled, see Open-Meteo's terms and privacy policy.
The App does not store your location, and the developer never receives it.
4. Information stored on your device
Your negatives, prints, print notes and settings are stored inside the App on your device. You can delete them within the App, and deleting the App removes all of them. If they are included in iCloud or other backups, this follows your Apple backup settings.
5. Changing permissions
You can change camera, Photos and location access at any time in the iPhone Settings app → “Darkroom Lab.” The App's main features work without these permissions (for example, with location off you can set the solution temperature manually).
6. Children's privacy
Because the App does not collect personal information, it does not receive personal information from any user, regardless of age.
7. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update this page along with the “Last updated” date.
